   Codex CLI installs persistent, self-updating background daemon by default

   Users report that Codex CLI (npm @openai/codex) starts a persistent background daemon by default since version 0.157.0. The daemon is copied into the user's home (~/.codex), auto-updates hourly, and retains the environment of the session that started it.
