Reporting shows at least three of the Big Five — HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette — have been using LLMs such as Claude and ChatGPT for tasks like agent emails, publicity copy, cover art and marketing materials. Staff interviewed say these uses were often not disclosed to authors and some employees were unhappy about how the tools were introduced and deployed.
