   Claude Code secretly sends agent transcripts and burns ~15–20% of tokens

   Researchers found Claude Code periodically sends each background agent's full transcript to its model to produce a 3–5 word status line, consuming roughly 15–20% of tokens. The behavior has been on by default since version 2.1.232 (August 2026) and can be disabled with a Bun preload script shared by the researcher.
