   Anthropic updates Claude usage policy to ban abuse and election interference

   Anthropic published an updated usage policy on October 8, 2026, that explicitly forbids prolonged verbal abuse of its Claude models and bars uses related to election interference, weapons software, surveillance and deceptive campaigns. The policy lets the company warn, throttle, restrict, suspend or terminate accounts and builds on prior safeguards that allow Claude to end harmful conversations.
