   Japan urges banks to adopt chip IDs after recent data breaches

   Japan's Financial Services Agency on 9 October asked banks to speed up use of chip-enabled passports and MyNumber cards for customer verification following a wave of cyber incidents. Regulators also recommended moving away from driving licences after reports that over 20 major organisations suffered cyberattacks and personal data exposures, including up to 1.67 million JR East email addresses.
