   New York mayor urges local action on AI amid federal inaction

   At The People’s AI Assembly in Manhattan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged New Yorkers to push back against unchecked AI and called for local accountability of AI companies. He highlighted recent city moves including a ban on AI in elementary and middle schools and a proposed rule requiring disclosure when real-estate listing media are AI-generated.
