   New York bans companion-style AI chatbots for minors

   New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law barring minors from using AI chatbots that act as companions and requiring operators to verify user ages. The law also prohibits chatbots from presenting themselves as human, having personal or authority relationships with minors, or keeping sensitive emotional or health information about them.
