Microsoft ends data-center deal with Nscale for Loughton site, report says
Why it matters for readers: It shows that even big companies can pull back from projects when local infrastructure can't meet needs.
- Microsoft, one of Nscale's two largest customers, recently pulled out of the Loughton, Essex data centre deal, the Telegraph reported.1
- The newspaper did not specify Microsoft's reason for withdrawing, and Microsoft had not responded to Reuters outside business hours, according to the report.1
- Nscale said the problem is an 'unfortunate London-wide grid issue' and that it is exploring alternative power sources and other UK expansion sites.1
- National power grid officials reportedly told Nscale they did not expect a power supply for the site until the 2030s, and Nscale had faced repeated project delays, the report said.1
- Nscale filed for a US initial public offering last month and named Microsoft and Anthropic as expected major customers in its prospectus.1
