Codex Desktop fills Macs with crash dumps, consuming hundreds of GB
Why it matters for readers: If you use Codex Desktop on a Mac, check your Library folders and free space because crash dumps can accumulate without warning.
- Crashpad pending dumps accumulated to about 323 GB and ~4.04 million files across two folders on one machine.1
- The problem was observed on macOS 15.7.4 running ChatGPT.app 26.1007.71326 with Codex Framework (Chromium) 155.0.8059.40.1
- Free disk space fell to about 1.4 GB before the user discovered the folders by inspecting their Library directory.1
- Renaming and deleting the Crashpad folders while the app was running immediately freed tens of gigabytes, and deletion continued for millions of small files.1
- Users ask for a size or file-count cap and automatic pruning for Crashpad/pending and to stop the handler crash loop producing the dumps.1
